Christmas is just around the corner, and as usual, everyone is scrambling to get their shopping done, wrap all the presents, and prepare for the big day. But this year, one more thing you should absolutely add to the list: watching some classic Christmas movies πŸŽ„.

The Christmas movie lineup at my house is always a hotly debated topic, but there’s no doubt that these twelve movies are the cream of the Christmas crop. Whether you’re in the mood for a heartwarming classic or a hilarious modern tale, there’s something here for everyone.

First up is It’s a Wonderful Life. This 1946 movie is a staple of the holiday season, and for a good reason. It follows George Bailey as he learns to appreciate life after almost losing it all. The film teaches that every person’s life has value and purpose.

Next up is A Christmas Carol from 1951, starring Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly older man who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, and the three ghosts of Christmas, past, present, and future. The ghosts show Scrooge the error of his ways and help him learn the true meaning of Christmas. This beloved tale has been remade many times over the years, but the original will always be the classic.

A Christmas Story is another fan favorite, following young Ralphie as he schemes to get his hands on a Red Ryder BB gun. With its heartwarming message and humorous antics, A Christmas Story has become a beloved holiday tradition for families around the world. This one is sure to put you in the holiday spirit!

Miracle on 34th Street stars a young Natalie Wood and Edmund Gwenn, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Kris Kringle in this film. This feel-good favorite tells the tale of Kris Kringle helping New Yorkers rediscover the true meaning of Christmas.

The Polar Express has quickly become a beloved Christmas classic, captivating viewers with its timeless story and modern animation. Just hearing the title evokes childhood memories of sled rides, an epic train journey to the North Pole, and finally settling down in front of the fireplace for a cozy night.

Elf is one of my personal favorites on this list. Will Ferrell is absolutely hilarious as Buddy, a human raised by elves at the North Pole who comes to live in New York City. If you’re looking for laughs this Christmas, Elf is your movie!

The Santa Claus from 1994 tells the story of how Santa Claus came to be, with Dudley Moore playing Father Christmas and David Huddleston playing Old St Nick himself. This movie will fill you with holiday cheer!

Many beloved holiday films have come and gone over the years, but one has remained an endearing classic for generations: The House Without a Christmas Tree. From its timeless story of family togetherness to its heartwarming message of acceptance, this charming 1972 film remains an undisputed fan favorite that continues to put a smile on viewers’ faces every Christmas season.

Love Actually is a holiday classic for a reason. Watching this movie never fails to spark feelings of warmth and joy, from the romantic love stories to the lighthearted comedy – it’s like spending two hours in a big, festive hug. The film has accumulated so much success over the years that even fifteen years later, it remains one of the most beloved Christmas movies ever made.

A Charlie Brown Christmas follows Charlie Brown as he tries to find ways to celebrate Christmas despite being surrounded by commercialism and cynicism. It’s definitely one of my childhood favorites – I still watch it every year without fail.

Christmas wouldn’t be the same without the classic movie The Grinch That Stole Christmas. Whether you saw the cartoon version when it first aired in 1966 or have a family tradition of watching it every year, the live-action Jim Carrey adaption of Dr. Seuss’s beloved tale is essential to many people’s holiday celebrations.
