Dear Margo: Why Does My Supplement Smell Funny?

We often asked, “Why does my supplement smell funny?

First and foremost, at Stonehenge Health, we don’t use diluted ingredients. Stonehenge Health supplements are pure, undiluted nutrients – in a capsule or softgel.

Moreovercertain nutrients are derived from natural sources that have particular scents. Every ingredient has its own naturally occurring smell, which may change over time. The supplements are perfectly safe, and the smell has no bearing on the effectiveness of the ingredients inside.

And finally, certain nutrients in their pure forms can smell. For example, garlic smells garlicky, turmeric has a savory, earthy smell, and krill oil can smell a bit fishy, but that’s the trade-off for unmasked purity.

Many supplement companies formulate their products without knowing or caring about their ingredients. And they do it because people don’t fully understand what they are purchasing.

It’s a shame. The potential benefits of well-formulated nutritional supplements are genuine and significant.

We’re proud to manufacture our supplements in cGMP-certified facilities right here in the United States. Quality is critical to us. Based on our team’s extensive research, we strive to maximize the effectiveness of each formula, perfecting each dose with the highest potency and purity of ingredients.

Take the “fishy” out of your Omega-3 Supplement.

If, like millions of people, you get your omega-3’s through fish oil but find the taste unpleasant or experience the dreaded “fish-burps,” perhaps it’s time to switch to a quality krill oil supplement like Stonehenge Health’s Dynamic Krill Oil™.

Krill Oil is an incredible source of Omega-3 DHA and EPA.

Krill are shrimp-like crustaceans that live in the cleanest water in the world – the Southern Antarctic Ocean and are the primary food source for whales, penguins, and seals.

Krill is so abundant in number – just in the Southern Antarctic Ocean alone – that their total weight exceeds the combined weight of all humans on Earth! Based on their sheer numbers, consuming krill instead of fish is simply better for the environment. And because krill is at the bottom of the food chain, they are significantly less likely to accumulate mercury and other pollutants, therefore a better choice for your health.  (1)

And krill oil has a significantly less noticeable after taste than fish oil, although it does have a distinct scent. Unlike fish oil, krill comes with a potent antioxidant called astaxanthin which gives krill its bright reddish orange color and helps prevent krill oil from turning rancid. (2)

To further improve your taste experience, Stonehenge Health encases our krill oil in lemon-coated softgels. Our delivery method does not alter the krill oil in any way. Our softgel caps only allow the krill oil to go down easier, making it simpler to stick to your daily regimen.
