Treat Yourself: Why You Deserve a Spa Day

3 minutes to read

Who’s the most important person in your life?

I hope the answer is you.

Now and then, you need to recognize this and treat yourself like the VIP that you are. And there’s no better way to put yourself on a pedestal than a day at a luxurious spa.

A spa day, for the uninitiated, is a way to switch off from your everyday world and rejuvenateDay spas offer a variety of treatments designed to beautify, reinvigorate, and relax your body and mind.

While at a spa, you can get a massage or facial, enjoy a delicious healthy lunch, use fitness and self-care facilities, and just enjoy the calm, aromatic surroundings. The wonderful thing about a spa day is that you can make it whatever you want or need.

And if you’re feeling guilty about spoiling yourself for a single day – don’t. A healthier, happier, more relaxed you, is better for everyone you work so hard to support and nurture.

I recently spent the day at an ultra-luxe Four Seasons spa celebrating my bestie’s birthday. (I live in Southern California, but most cities have similar spas.) From the moment I walked through the glass doors and inhaled the eucalyptus and lavender fragrance, I could feel the stress melt away. And the money I saved on staying put instead of traveling to a destination spa went towards a 90-minute firming facial that took 10 years off my face; ahh, bliss!

Keep reading to explore why you need a spa day, how to find a spa that’s right for you, and how to get the most out of your special day.

You Need This!

A day at the spa is no longer a getaway enjoyed by the well-heeled and famous. More and more people appreciate how today’s modern spa treatments can restore the body and mind. Spa therapy is therapy – and offers a pleasurable way to release built-up tensions and stress.

Healing Your Body and Mind

Spa treatments like deep tissue massage, body wraps, and Reiki promote healing and well-being by relaxing your nerves and boosting circulation.

Detoxify

Your skin is your largest organ and is the first line of defense against environmental toxins. Facials and body wraps detoxify your skin and help remove built-up impurities.

Day spas typically offer detoxifying herbal teas and superfood snacks that can help kick-start your detox. By removing toxins from your system, you’re revving up your metabolism and boosting your immunity.

Rejuvenate Your Beauty

Our skin and bodies require a little more maintenance to look and feel their best as we age. Whether it’s a facial or hair treatment, a day at the spa can help you reclaim your healthy, youthful-looking hair and skin.

Finding Your Perfect Spa

Finding a good day spa is easy. Start with Google or Yelp, type in “day spas” with your city or zip code, and see what pops up. Look first at the five-star hotels in your city. You won’t need to spend hundreds on a room for the night. Most hotel spas offer all-day access to their facilities, including adults-only spa pools, whirlpools, and fitness centers with one paid spa treatment or service.

If you haven’t been before, do some research before you go.

When you visit the spa’s website, investigate their treatments and service prices. Look through pictures of their facilities. Does it fit your style and budget?

Before you choose your location, here are a few things to consider:

• What type of experience works best for you?

• Do you want a relaxing day of pampering?

• Do you want an active experience that includes yoga or fitness classes?

• Do they have a dedicated spa pool (no kids allowed) with comfy lounge chairs where you can have a light meal and drink? This way, you really feel like you are on vacation.

Getting the Most Out of Your Spa Day

Arrive hours early so you can enjoy time in the steam room or sauna. You’ll feel even more relaxed while the hot steam opens your pores and prepares your skin for the paid treatments.

Take advantage of the complimentary comforts such as towels, slippers, and robes.

Don’t dash for the door when your treatment ends. Enjoy the post-treatment areas such as the spa pool, whirlpool, and sauna. This is the perfect opportunity to sip herbal tea and let the stress of the outside world melt away.

Remember, a spa day is about unwinding and taking time for yourself. So, kick back, relax, and enjoy!

How to Reduce Daily Stress

A day at the spa is the epitome of relaxation. And allowing yourself to relax truly is key to controlling stress and anxiety.

Another way many people are helping take control of their stress is through adaptogens. Adaptogens help your body better adapt to stress and help restore balance and a greater sense of calm.

Stonehenge Health’s Dynamic Mushrooms is a powerful adaptogenic blend of functional mushrooms – Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Chaga, Maitake, and Shiitake.

Using Dynamic Mushrooms™ as part of an overall healthy lifestyle can help you better adapt to physical and mental stressors, support your brain and immune system health and boost natural energy.
